Polish lithography exhibition ART MAKES A BREAK

01.06.2016 -19.06.2016 | Tuesday to Sunday 12.00-18.00 | Printing and Paper museum gallery | Kastani 42, Tartu

‘’ART MAKES A BREAK” is an exhibition that presents Polish lithographic art of the last few decades. Poland has been known for its lithography artists and high-quality art pieces for years. Thanks to the foundation Republic of Polish Lithography, this June you will have a chance to see nearly 30 works created in this printmaking technique. Lithography, with its time-consuming and complicated production process, has been added to the UNESCO list of disappearing skills. It’s time to save it from oblivion and dust off the lithography press!

The exhibition is a compilation of several lithography graphics. It attempts to answer the question: is lithography (as a manual artform) still significant in the era of computer technology and digital printing? The result is a set of graphic works created by artists in six different ateliers around Poland: Lublin, Gdańsk, Łódź, Katowice, Poznań and Wrocław. The form and the content of the presented works create a correspondence between the new (the aesthetic quality) and the old (the accompanying techniques), demonstrating that lithography is still doing well.

The opening: 1st of June at 18.00.
At 19.00 there will be a free-from discussion with lithography teacher Tomasz Malec and artist Jolanta Gmur, creators of the Republic of Polish Lithography, founded in 2015.

The exhibition will be open from the 1st to the 19th of June 2016 at the Printing and Paper Museum gallery, Aparaaditehas 2. floor, enter from the green door.

The gallery is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 12.00-18.00.
